It will no longer be necessary to wait outside the operating room door for a doctor to inform you if the surgery has started, is in progress, or has been completed with the family member’s return to the ward. At the Giglio Foundation in Cefalù, the “Smart Surgery” application, implemented by Giglio’s information systems, coordinated by engineer Rosario Curcio, in collaboration with the company “TapMyLife,” allows family members and caregivers to follow the patient’s surgical pathway directly from their smartphone or tablet.
‘The operation is simple,’ explained Curcio. Upon admission, the patient receives a bracelet equipped with a position sensor that, with consent, allows for monitoring during the surgery. To activate the service, family members or caregivers, authorized by the patient, simply need to scan the provided QR code and enter the security code.
‘Furthermore, the system helps,’ concluded administrative director Gianluca Galati, ‘to optimize workflow within the operating block, reducing waiting times and improving the overall efficiency of the surgical process.’
