The Desio hospital has designed and implemented a new real-time operating room management module. This is an automated function that manages and optimizes the logistics of surgical patients within the hospital.

The Desio hospital complex includes a block with 7 operating rooms and handles approximately 1,300 elective surgeries and over 7,000 surgical procedures annually. To effectively manage this volume of activity, the new system provides real-time visualization of the surgical patient’s journey.

At each stage of the patient’s status—from admission to the ward and finally to the operating room—a graphic, called a timeline, is updated with various pieces of information: patient in the hospital, patient in the ward not ready for surgery, patient in the ward ready for surgery, patient in the operating block, patient in the operating room, patient in intensive care, and return to the ward.

This allows only patients who are already in the hospital and operable to be transported to the operating room. The timeline provides a quick overview indicating that the patient is in the hospital, has completed admission, is in the ward with precise details of the floor, room, and bed, and is ready for the surgery. Additionally, the system allows for immediate graphical comparison between the planned schedule and the actual progress of activities through color-coded indicators with different meanings.
